EFSC Foundation Announces Two 2020 Distinguished Alumni
March 9, 2020 - The Eastern Florida State College Foundation has named Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey and government policy expert Bruce Haupt as its 2020 Distinguished Alumni.
The Foundation, which provides scholarships to EFSC students, cited their accomplishments and public service as the reasons both were chosen for the honor.
“Sheriff Ivey and Bruce Haupt exemplify what many EFSC graduates are doing in using their education to have outstanding careers and help the community. We’re proud to present them this award,” said Foundation Director Jennie Kriete.
Ivey has been in law enforcement for nearly four decades and is serving his second term as sheriff. He previously served nearly 20 years with the Florida Division of Law Enforcement.
During his career, he has developed numerous programs recognized at the national and state level for innovation and excellence in crime prevention and investigations.
Ivey has also testified before Congress on immigration, opioids and identity theft.
He earned his Associate in Science Degree in Criminal Justice Technology from EFSC.
Haupt is a high school drop-out who earned his GED and came to EFSC, then Brevard Community College, where he credits faculty and staff for giving him the support to earn his Associate in Arts Degree.
He went on to the University of Florida and Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government for his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, respectively, before embarking on a career with the city of Houston as Deputy Assistant Finance Director.
He has lived in China and worked in Oman as Senior Policy Advisor for the Secretariat General of the Supreme Council for Planning.
Haupt is currently studying for his PhD at the University of Kentucky.
