Amazing Grace 5K Proceeds to Build Lasting Legacy at EFSC
It was a beautiful morning on the Eastern Florida State College Palm Bay Campus Saturday, October 19 as 393 participants awaited the starting gun at the Amazing Grace 5K Run & Walk.
For the families of Rikki Grace and Dr. Megan Grace, who were not related, it was the culmination of more than a year of planning by the founders of Made for More Movement, Inc. to memorialize their daughters, who were tragically killed by a drunken driver on October 18, 2022, as they participated in a fun run.
Both were students at Eastern Florida State College and lifelong friends who lived across the street from each other in Palm Bay. They challenged each other in their fitness goals, often participating in local 5K races or developing their own triathlons when a race was not available.
“We wanted to create a legacy for the girls, something that would make a difference for others,” said race creator Sherry Grace, mother of Rikki.
“Scholarships seemed to be the perfect way to not only honor them, but to support students in need at EFSC.”
The Run & Walk raised $10,000 to help establish two individual $5,000 memorial scholarships in the coming year.
The proceeds were officially presented to Tonya Cherry, Executive Director of the Eastern Florida State College Foundation at the organization's office on the Melbourne campus.
“It has been a privilege to help these two special families realize their dream of honoring the legacies of Rikki and Megan,” said Cherry. “The scholarships will make a lasting difference, launching the career dreams of deserving students here at EFSC.”
