Eastern Florida State College student scholarship recipients had the opportunity to express their gratitude to those who have helped them study for a degree at the EFSC Foundation’s Annual Titan Donor Scholarship Reception.

Held on the EFSC Melbourne Campus on Tuesday, April 15, more than 800 scholarship recipients were invited to the emotion-packed event.

In her opening remarks, EFSC Foundation Executive Director Tonya Cherry praised donors for “helping to make career dreams a reality through your contributions and positively changing the lives and futures of our students.”

She noted that a record $1.1 million in scholarships helped 1,400 students last academic year, showing the indispensable role that donors play in college life.

“The impact of your support can be seen in the smiling faces of the student recipients here tonight,” said Cherry.

“Many of our students dream of well-paying careers, but don’t have the resources they need to achieve their goals. That’s why our donors and supporters are so very important. You are special members of our EFSC Family, and the heart you have for our students is making a tangible difference.”

A recipient of the Dr. Mary Cathryne Park Memorial Scholarship, Leah Guzman, was thrilled to have the chance to pursue her dream career of influencer marketing.

“It's such an honor to receive this scholarship,” she said. “It helps me pursue my education and work full-time. It helps me grow as a person and step into the career path that I want to do. I really appreciate the opportunity to be given this scholarship.”

Jayda Ruiz-Garcia, who received the Harmon Strieter STEM Scholarship, also expressed her gratitude.

"It's a blessing to get my BAS in Biomedical Science here at EFSC. It means the world to me to be able to receive this scholarship and have a stepping stone to becoming a dermatologist."
